Building Canada's postharvest platform — three food-grade products from one diverted seed.

Persea Vitalis Inc. is a pre-commercial Ontario bioenterprise converting landfilled avocado seed into three food-grade products that cut Canada's fruit postharvest loss. One R&D programme, one circular supply chain, three products — FreshGuard™, VitaFilm™ and PhytoGuard™. Incorporated in Ontario in March 2026 and in Bioenterprise's GOAH mentorship programme.

One seed. Two streams. Three products. One supply chain.

We exist to convert a discarded Canadian by-product into a circular, multi-revenue platform — and letting evidence redirect the company is the discipline experienced agri-tech funders reward. The concept sharpened from a greenhouse-tomato biofungicide (a genetically solved, low-pull problem) to postharvest decay, where genetics can't help, synthetic chemistry is losing to resistance, and buyers actively demand residue-free solutions. No product is sold yet; our work is to close the in-vivo efficacy, supply-consistency, IP and first-filing gaps.

FreshGuard™
Anti-browning · Food additive

Avocado-seed anti-browning agent for fresh-cut fruit; inhibits polyphenol oxidase. A Health Canada food additive — the fastest route to first revenue.

VitaFilm™
Active packaging · Food-contact LNO

Biodegradable films and edible coatings from the seed starch stream — the fraction an extract-only business would landfill. Cleared by a Health Canada Letter of No Objection.

PhytoGuard™
Bio-antifungal · PMRA biopesticide

Avocado-seed postharvest decay-control dip/coating. A PMRA biopesticide (~18–24 months) — the defensible barrier a fast-follower cannot shortcut. No registered competitor anywhere.

Over twenty years with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and World Vision International (WVI), managing an institutional portfolio exceeding USD $30M across twelve countries in agricultural value-chain development, food security and smallholder support. The grant-compliance discipline, multi-stakeholder coordination and results-based management developed in that work map directly to what Canadian agri-tech funders evaluate in a pre-commercial founder. The postharvest platform originated at the intersection of his agricultural-science training, direct experience with circular agri-food supply chains, and a regulatory white space: a polyphenol-dense co-product landfilled as waste, with peer-reviewed evidence of antifungal and anti-browning activity, and no registered competitor.

Bioenterprise GOAH + to be announced.

Persea Vitalis is in Bioenterprise's GOAH mentorship programme. Further advisory commitments in postharvest science, regulatory strategy and agri-food commercialisation will be named here as agreements are confirmed.

Turn one landfilled seed into a zero-waste, multi-revenue platform.

Beyond any single product, the same Ontario supply infrastructure and one extraction line position Canada to monetise a polyphenol-dense co-product the literature has documented but no regulator has yet operationalised. The bigger frame: Persea Vitalis is not building a single product — it is building the operating system for taking Canadian by-product bioactives from the literature to the label, fully converting one diverted seed into value across three lines.

First mover. First revenue on the food-grade products. The moat behind them.

First revenue arrives on FreshGuard™ within months, while PhytoGuard™ advances toward a PMRA registration no avocado-seed product holds anywhere. The structural advantage is a Canada-first, circular supply chain at zero or negative raw-material cost that a fast follower cannot replicate without starting over — and a marginal-cost platform where each added product, and each new claim, is justified by the combined demand of all three lines.
